An expanding web design agency in Shifnal has welcomed a new apprentice to its team. Former Idsall School pupil Jon Harrison has joined Ascendancy in Shifnal as a web design apprentice.
The 18-year-old, who also lives in Shifnal, took up the role at the end of September and is working full time at the agency whilst training three days a month at Digital Native in Birmingham.
Helen Culshaw, managing director of Ascendancy, said she was pleased to welcome Jon to the team and give him the opportunity to learn on the job through the work apprenticeship scheme. She said: “Jon is our first apprentice here at Ascendancy.
“As a business we are proud to support the next generation and help them get into employment.
“As a web design apprentice Jon will be learning how to build good quality websites from scratch.
“He will also be learning about other core areas of the business including digital marketing.
“This will provide him with new skills and a high level of practical experience to help him advance his career.”
Jon, who has always had an interest in computers, said he had settled into the apprenticeship scheme pretty quickly. “The team here are great and very welcoming and I feel I have learned a lot in such short space of time already,” he explained.
“I’ve been learning how to code, supporting clients with queries and have a basic understanding of WordPress.
“I’ve also been learning about Search Engine Optimisation, Google AdWords and Google Analytics. “Eventually I hope to learn all the skills necessary to support the team in building bespoke websites for clients.”
Ascendancy, which was founded 11 years ago, hosts more than 100 websites for businesses in Shropshire and further afield. For more information on the range of services it provides visit ascendancy.agency or contact 01952 462845.
