A Shropshire internet marketing company has launched a new-look website for a major UK computer game publisher. And, the results are proving a massive boost to Excalibur – the only fully independent UK PC game publisher represented at retail – with it seeing a significant rise in page views and internet sales since the website went live.
Helen Culshaw, Managing Director of Ascendancy Internet Marketing, said: “This has been an exciting project for us and we have really enjoyed working with Excalibur.
“When they came to us they described their existing website as a bit of a ‘mish mash’. We have given it a completely new look and they are already seeing the benefits of having a modern, easy to use website.”
Before re-building the website for Excalibur, which has been publishing a range of computer games in trucking, sci-fi, driving and sport since 2004, Ms Culshaw and her team carried out careful data analysis on the existing website.
“It is very common, when companies redesign their websites, for them to accidentally wipe out much of their existing online traffic,” said Ms Culshaw. “With our expertise we have been very careful to make sure this has not happened, and indeed that traffic has grown.”
Ascendancy, which is celebrating its 10th year in business and recently expanded its workforce, landed the contract with Oxfordshire-based Excalibur after the company’s Senior Marketing Manager Richard Barclay came across an online article Ms Culshaw had written in 2006 on email marketing tips.
By pure coincidence Mr Barclay was also schooled in Shifnal, where Ascendancy is based. “Richard finding that article I wrote seven years earlier really does show the value of search engine optimisation, and how important it is for businesses to be writing online blogs and articles in their expert field,” said Ms Culshaw.
“It is about the long term gain. Excalibur is now one of our biggest clients and to think it all started with an article I wrote all those years ago is fantastic.”
Ascendancy continues to work with Excalibur on a number of other projects and will soon be rebuilding the company’s e-commerce site. Mr Barclay said: “We are very pleased with the work Ascendancy Internet Marketing have done. Since the new website went live our page views are up nearly 30 per cent which is fantastic. This is because people are now managing to find product pages much quicker than before.
“The new website looks so much cleaner, concise and far more professional. We are now looking forward to working with Ascendancy over the next few weeks to improve our e-commerce. We very much expect to see a major upturn in our e-commerce business once this project is complete.”
As well as website design and development and search engine optimisation, Ascendancy also specialises in email marketing, Google AdWords management and Google Analytics consultancy. Ms Culshaw, a trained teacher and lecturer, also runs training courses for businesses in conjunction with Shropshire Chamber of Commerce.
