On the 31st of January 2022, I started my position with Ascendancy as an apprentice Digital Marketing Assistant.
Since day one, everyone has been so kind and welcoming. I’ve settled in quickly and I can see a rewarding future with Ascendancy. Before joining the company, I was concerned about being thrown into the deep end and not having enough experience but, to my pleasant surprise, the whole team has been exceptionally helpful and thorough in supporting, training and guiding me. The team is lovely. The office is made up of the web team and the digital marketing team. Everyone works together well, gets along and has lots of fun in the office (but they still work very hard!) Our jobs usually coincide with each other too, so I find it really helpful to have website experts around.
I have learnt so much so quickly about digital marketing, SEO and PPC. Throughout the month, I have been working on a variety of things. Initially, tasks like writing blog posts and website content in order to optimise organic search visibility and user experience. I like this type of work as I enjoy writing, and it’s interesting to do research on different services and products because it helps me to understand our clients better. I have also been creating different types of Google ads, finding and using relevant keywords for Performance Max campaigns, Display, Search and Shopping ad campaigns. I’m currently working towards gaining my Google Ads certifications.
At Ascendancy, there’s a bigger focus on the technical side of digital marketing, website usability and conversion rate optimisation. A regular task is using semrush for backlink or tech audits, however, I have worked on some Facebook ads and recently took part in a training session on LinkedIn advertising. I find it rewarding to see how your work positively affects the client’s goals, such as CTR, conversions, brand awareness or ROAS. Recently, I enjoyed working on designing and creating a landing page for a Google Ads campaign. We set up an a/b split test experiment through Instapage to test whether the new or old design generated more conversions, which was interesting as I had to consider audience, usability, writing compelling content and more.
Our Director, Helen, puts a big focus on expanding skills and knowledge and gives us lots of opportunities for courses and training; even conducting lots herself! I really appreciate this as it’s helping to improve my understanding, and I look forward to attending a Google Ads course with Helen soon.
Overall, I have had a fantastic first month with Ascendancy. I’m enjoying my apprenticeship and developing invaluable skills everyday. I look forward to learning more and gaining more responsibilities over the coming months.
